Just wanted to share our Shubho Noboborsho experience this year, it was awesome. A close friend had organised a lunch party, where all the guests had brought a different kind of bhorta to go with panta bhat & shutki mmmm..My kids & dressed for the occasion, it is so easy to lose our own culture here. I often dread my kids would not care about the values and traditions we left behind back home. All they care about now is Halloween & Christmas, I strongly feel it is our responsibility to make Eid, Pohela Baishakh etc. more fun for them….Coming back to the party, we watchd NTV and fokir alomgir was singing one of his old hits..mon tui chinli naare..I cant remember the last time I heard that song and with such attention & appreciation!! I guess I miss home more than I realize…

I never celebrated this growing up in US! I saw a HUGE group of people in my ‘hood (Bangladesh Plaza in Jackson Hts, Queens) all dressed-up, happy, w/ baloons, so asked my mom about it. Wow, I still have a lot to learn about old desh! LOL!!!
