Dear Friend of Adhunika,
Hope this message finds you in good health. On behalf of Adhunika Foundation, I would like to invite you to be part of our year end get together on December 10, 2016.
We want to celebrate the day with Friends of Adhunika & ‘A Team’ the driving forces of the organization, talking about the projects we have been involved in 2016. You will get to hear from our team members who have organized a successful 14th anniversary fundraising event, volunteers who take classes & workshops via skype for the students of Adhunika Women’s Centre managed by Sajida Foundation in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Learn from our friends in the community who helped us raise funds to sustain our ongoing projects. Also you will hear from our youngest volunteers about Team Adhunika Jr. & how they have helped 23 school children from Amrao Manush Project run by Sajida Foundation, & learn what the team is planning to do for next year. This is the special day we get to celebrate ‘A Team’ & ‘Friends of Adhunika’ who are making a difference in the lives of women of Bangladesh.
In addition, this year one of our longtime Friend of Adhunika Labiba Ali will do a small presentation on ‘Sartorial choices – why we wear what we do’ – The way we drape our sari, the red teep on our foreheads, the serious pinstripe suit for a client meeting or the amatory feminine dress we don on a night out in town communicates important messages about us to others. The sari automatically signals our ethnic identity while wearing a Chanel dress proclaims our social status. Dress, then, reveals how we want the world to view us. This talk will explore the visual language of dress and the ways in which we speak through our dress choices. In conclusion, we will briefly journey through the evolution of the Bengali sari amidst major historical changes.
We look forward to see you & reflect 2016 as we get ready for a new year.
