Subject: 1971 & next generation
Dear all,
Eid Mubarak and wish you all a very Happy New year.
While, Alochona fixed Independence War of Bangladesh as topic of the
month, I was excited about my frequent participation. I became disheartened
when try to write something and realized that since I was then only one and
half years old, I've no memory, no thrilling experience, no glorious memory
of
participation......
I'm the representative of the next generation of the Independence war. May
be (our forefather) the freedom fighters thought that they are fighting for a
Bangladesh, which would be free from all injustice that they faced during
the Pakistan regime. Their children (we) would live in a different world.
What a golden opportunity they missed when the War was over. I tried to
recall my childhood and adolescence age to identify something very
enthusiastic memories that was truly woven around the ethics of Independence
war. Unfortunately, only could recall two major parties? fighting about
whose role was glorious, nothing about implementing the dreams of those
muktijodya.
Why and how the youth power, the spirit of Muktijudha couldn't be utilized,
we all know the prolonged 30 years history. We all know how those freedom
fighters are simply thrown on the road. Neither we could ensure their
dignity nor could make any positive changes in their lives.
The abducted women (Birangana) passed
the most undignified life one could live. Nilima Ibrahim tried to draw some
positive picture of the Biranganas, most of the stories ended that the
Birangana migrated in a third country the foreigner husband is taking proper
care of her and her children. On our motherland, we failed to create any
ideal example of giving them appropriate respect and dignified life for
them.
Despite thinking of all drawbacks I asked myself, Would I join in the
freedom fight if such incidence happen again while keeping all reflection of
todays towards freedom fighters, surprisingly the answer is YES. I do fight
for my country if requires, I firmly believe that Millions of people are
thinking in the same way as I do.
Now we are the adults and our teen siblings and children are looking forward
to us. I think we should carryout the spirit and vision of the War by
overlooking the problems of identity crisis of both existing political
parties. I do not see any possibility that our existing leaders have that
vision and strength to change the country. Still our political parties'
speeches are full of past golden stories.
I personally do not wish to see that after 10 years someone would write the
same thing today I wrote in Alochona. We need new leaders, new ideology,
Vision for better future. Dear readers do you think its possible to avoid
controversy and really work for betterment of country and countrymen? Or
again we all would go back to find out the answer who was greater, who was
the actual leader and what were their dreams about the country by forgetting
our present action and responsibility?
What do you think?

Notes from Alochona Moderator's Desk
(excerpt:)
Rahnuma Afrin was one of the most prolific Alochona writers from 'generation
71'. We lost her too early but her vision and dream remains at the heart of
many. We are forwarding one mail of her from Alochona Main Forum archive
where Rahnuma shared her thoughts on 1971 from 'generation 71' perspective.
We decided this to post on this month of December, as this is the
soul-searching month for us to look back to history to evaluate where we are
after 33 years of our independence.
