The goal of the project is to develop, implement, and test a Community Health Worker Program designed to improve diabetes control and diabetes-related health complications in the Bangladeshi community in New York City.
Diabetes is a growing problem in the Bangladeshi and South Asian community. A survey conducted in the New York City South Asian population found that approximately 17% of South Asians suffer from diabetes, a rate much higher than that of the general population. Adhunika – a coalition partner of DREAM Project provides volunteer opportunities to be part of the study.
