It is a global volunteer based organization, dedicated to promoting technology usage for the Bangladeshi women worldwide. Adhunika aims to bring about social change in the lives of women through the use of technology.

Adhunika was created in March 2002, initially as an internet-based network for the women of Bangladesh. As a portal which existed as an online resource for Bangladeshi woman, Adhunika was unique and visionary. The original goal of Adhunika was to learn, as an organization, and to help its members learn, by facilitating the exchange of information and knowledge among its members. As a purely online entity, Adhunika started online, as a website. The website was www.adhunika.org, and it acts as the gateway to the Foundation, although Adhunika has since evolved to develop a significant offline existence as well.

Logo

The Logo is designed by Adhunika’s long time friend Artist Mahera Khaleque, following is a note from her:

Adhunika’s logo is comprised of three design elements: line, shape and color. The red and the green represent the colors of the Bangladeshi flag, while yellow brings brightness to the entire composition.

The logo unites the thought of the homeland, women, and their future. The red circle at the background commemorates the fallen in the Liberation war of 1971 as it does for the flag. Highlighted by the white and the yellow lines, the green shape combines a couple of ideas: an abstracted “Shore-a,” which is the first alphabet to spell the word Adhunika in Bengali. It also resembles the shape of a seed. Conceptually conveying a sense of birth or creation, a seed signifies the birth of an idea or the beginning of a hope… in this case, for women as the act of giving birth relates to the experience of women. Also, green is viewed as the color of vitality.
